Client success: Becoming Master of Yourself Again

Another real client success story to share

This is the real client success story of L. a male in his forties with a young child and a busy life between work and family.

We have been working out together for some time already but on October 2025 he decided to level up his game after some health concerns and we setup a plan to get right where he wanted.

My role as a coach is to support my clients in two ways:

  1. Provide tailor-made workout plans to my client’s time, gym setup and goals
  2. Offer and provide nutrition guidelines to expand the results of the workouts.

I’m not a nutritionist. I don’t prepare detailed meal plans but I help my clients understanding the function and role of food in their situation guiding them figuring out the best approach to match their goal while assisting along the way.

Detailed meal plans, in my eyes, are not for everyone. They can be strict, hard to follow, too detailed in what you should/should not eat and often detached from the reality of life.

The stricter and more detailed the plan is, the higher the stress and anxiety levels if you can’t do exactly like the plan say.

strict calorie goal vs flexible calorie range drake meme

I’m sure that you too had a friend or two who followed a very hard detailed diet plan for a few weeks (maybe months) to then give it up entirely as it was too much to follow.

Some studies highlight that the overall dropout rate (from detailed caloric restriction plans) at 2 months was 21.3%, after 6 months was 44.4%, and after 1 year was 68.5%.[source]

If you can’t keep up with the plan and you gain back all the lost body weight (or more)…what’s the point?

A plan that tells you exactly what to do doesn’t really teach you anything. I am a strong believer in helping my clients build skills that they can replicate for their nutrition independently without panicking if something is not following everything by the book (vacations, work trips and business dinners, newborn baby….).

don't panic

What did L. have to do?

Changing your body and build a new habit does take time and work so L. had to do his part of the job. A program is only as solid as the consistency of who follows it. It doesn’t matter how much the coach crafts a “perfect” plan if the client can’t/won’t do his/her job.

To help L. reach his goals here is what I have prepared:

  1. a 9 pages “Nutrition Blueprint” with explanations and guidelines to navigate how to adjust his nutrition
  2. recurring tailor-made 8 to 10 weeks long workout plans for 3 sessions a week, every session lasting about 60 minutes (as per request)

L. started to work and I provided detailed answers to any question and help request he had along the way to his success.

Have a goal and a timeline in mind to enjoy the process

L. had a body weight goal to aim for and by understanding his needs we structured a medium-long term plan for him to reach it without insane restrictions and allowing him to enjoy things in moderation with his wife, kids and friends.

Let me emphasize this:

To enjoy things in moderation with his wife, kids and friends.

This is, by far, the most important and very often underrated point of any nutrition plan.

Despite what many iNfLuEnCeRs say to sell you their trash:

Change doesn’t happen in 2 weeks, it could start around 8-10 weeks and becomes stronger and visible around 6 months of enjoyable but real consistency.

I strongly believe that you can enjoy things that you like (in moderation) even if they’re labeled as “unhealthy” as they are actually important to your mental health and this makes your capacity to stick to the plan much much stronger.

I’ll give you a very simple example:

I had a client that every morning with his breakfast coffee would have 2 chocolate cookies. He was very surprised when I encouraged him to keep having these cookies and he said these words:

“Having those cookies makes me happy and gives me energy to start the day. If you asked me to remove them I would have immediately stopped following the plan

Amen to that. Leonardo di Caprio toasting

If you tell me to remove the chocolate cube I have in my morning Oatmeal porridge (my breakfast staple since 8+ years) or my after-dinner dark chocolate square because sUgArRRRRR be ready to be flipped off on the spot.

"Becoming master of yourself again" L's own words and testimonial

Once you pass forty, the professional and family responsibilities that pile up give us a perfect excuse to neglect our bodies. Stress pushes us to slip back into our bad habits to unwind, fatigue makes us lethargic and unable to take any initiative, and what we see as a lack of time finally absolves us of any guilt for doing nothing beyond what’s imposed on us.

This showed up on both my body and my mind, and the final wake-up call was that sudden health check-up, which made it clear that without the willpower to bounce back, only a slow decline awaited.

In moments like these, it’s always best to ask for advice, and Carlo’s attentive ears quickly understood exactly the kind of support I needed.

His recommendations gave me a clear roadmap I could follow, while knowing he would always be there to back me up and rekindle my motivation.

At the start, you have to lean on that initial shock. It’s not that difficult — fear and a bit of anger help you tap into your strength and push aside some of the burdens weighing you down.

My advice for those like me who think they don’t have time: get up early and do your exercise sessions before work. You’ll be even more tired in the evening and you’ll go straight to bed instead of wasting your time online.

Another tip: track your progress, because it’s one of the greatest sources of motivation.

And finally, never forget that whatever the result, if you give yourself every possible means to make something happen, you’ll never have any regrets and you’ll be at peace with yourself.

This is how, after 6 months of steady but never excessive effort, I was able to visibly transform my body.
  • I lost my belly while building muscle mass.
  • I also regained my mental sharpness and my self-confidence.

I managed to become master of myself again by proving that one simple decision I made ultimately led to tangible results I could never have achieved otherwise.

I’ve found my freedom again, and I have no intention of giving it up anytime soon!

L's results: a real success and why it's so important

Look at the body weight chart and trend. We officially started his nutrition blueprint plan on October 6th 2025 and it’s now April 2026. This is what:

  • A regular life and a sustainable level of consistency looks like.
  • Enjoying the little things here and there while working on your health looks like.
  • Finding the plan that matches your own unique set up looks like.
  • Understanding that moderation works looks like
  • Adding regular strength training for your health looks like.

-7kg in 6 months trend chart. Client success in weight loss

From 82kg to 74.7kg in half a year or if you prefer:

-7.3kg in 6 months,
the equivalent of a carry on suitcase

about 1.2Kg per month on average which is an AMAZING pace.

a 7kg blue suitcase on the floor of a room
this is what 7 kgs looks like when you’re flying around with a carry on suitcase by the way

If you did the math, this would mean 14.4 kg in a year and that is HUGE.

It doesn’t mean that weight loss progresses infinitely and to keep going is necessary, it just means that once you reach the body weight goal you have in mind you can stay there, adapt and go back to the blueprint (and your coach for advice) every time things seems not go towards the right direction.

I am stocked by the spectacular changes I’ve witnessed in L’s mindset and attitude first and body composition after. This is the type of long-lasting lifestyle change that truly makes an impact.

Truly well well well done!
